Vicenza is situated in the heart of Veneto Region (very closed to Venice) and, together with its magnificent villas, is included in the Unesco World heritage list, thanks to the monuments designed by Andrea Palladio (1508–80). The work of the architect is based on a detailed study of classical Roman architecture and gives the city its unique appearance. His work inspired a distinct architectural style known as Palladianism, which spreads to England and other European countries, and also to North America.
